Black and Decker, Inc. announced today a $12 million expansion of its Denison facility that will increase local employment by over 170 jobs and will provide capacity for additional manufacturing processes within the Denison facility.

"This expansion announcement is great news for our community," said Jerdy Gary, Chairman of the Denison Development Alliance. "We are always marketing our city to outside companies but our number one priority has always been to support the industries we have. Black and Decker is one of our largest employers and has been an outstanding corporate citizen for the past 16 years, providing quality jobs and leadership in our community. We deeply appreciate this expansion commitment because Black and Decker is giving Denison its fantastic vote of confidence."

The Denison Development Alliance (DDA) approved a $220,000 investment package and has recommended that the local taxing entities provide a 10-year tax abatement for the new investment. DDA also will construct a new waterline to improve service to the Black and Decker plant as well as future tenants of the Foundation Business Park.

"The Denison plant has a history of success because of the "can do" attitude of our employees and their commitment to safety, quality, customer service, and productivity. We have always been proud of the partnership between industry, city, and community here in Denison," said Eric Lewis, Plant Manager. "Collaboration from the city, the Chamber of Commerce, and Denison business leaders was a major factor in the decision to locate the plant in Denison in 1988, and that support has continued throughout our years in the community. We are very excited about our expansion and the addition of new employees into the Black & Decker Denison family."

Black and Decker is a leading global manufacturer and marketer of power tools and accessories, hardware and home improvement products, and technology based fastening systems. The local facility which began operations in 1988 produces components for Black and Decker assembly plants worldwide. The Denison plant is 225,000 square feet and operates 24 hrs./day, 7 days/week.
